『채식주의자』 번역을 통해 본 ‘번역가 브리프’ 기능 연구

Abstract

Translation studies place an importance on the role of translators. When translating literary works, meaning is not fixed literary works and doesn’t have the same impact on different readers and at different times. This study discusses and analyzes epitext of the The Vegetarian winning the Man Booker International Award. And then, this study organizes translator brief on epitext regarding translator’s purpose, intention, and strategy of translation through media interviews. Lastly, this paper analyze source text and target text based on translator brief as for the cultural aspect divided into cultural-subtext and culture-specific items. In conclusion, it is proved that translation strategies are related with translator brief based on epitext including interviews, commentaries and columns. This paper is to explore possibilities of Korean literature with several translation strategies Deborah Smith adopt and implement.
