- Abstract
- The purpose of this paper is to examine the translation aspects in connection with style characteristics expressing a distance among main characters through indicative expression used throughout “The Vegetarian.” This stylistic feature is used with an aesthetic device by considering a stylistic effect throughout “The Vegetarian.” It has literary value as a work by highlighting the characteristic style of “The Vegetarian” enough. This study has contrasted and analyzed how the stylistic characteristics expressing sense of distance between the main characters and speaker are shown in the target text through the indicative expression of “The Vegetarian.” In other words, this research aims to analyze how these stylistic characteristics in The Vegetarian. As a result, distances in the relationship among main characters and instability effects are generated by preserving the same stylistic device in “The Vegetarian.” This study seeks to demonstrate that it is strongly necessary to not only sincerely follow the meaning of source text but also consider how its literary value is reflected in the literary translation.
