- Abstract
- This study started from the problem that the current education about myths can instill a prejudice against myth in the learner, by pursuing the interpretation embedded in the historical functionalities centered on the founding of myth. To solve this problem, after establishing the concept of mythological succession in pursuit of ‘integration between the past and the present’ based on the essential characteristics of myth, the contents system of mythological succession education and the significance of Korean language education were established. First, The core of mythological succession education is to enable learners to realize that mythology is the basis for shaping logical models that can solve conflicts in human life, and that modern people are the basis for forming desirable life attitudes. Second, the education of mythological succession can contribute to the realization of the purpose of Korean language education: ‘the linguistic growth of individuals,’ ‘the critical analysis and understanding of culture’ and ‘the inheritance of language cultural heritage.’ Third, the contents system of mythological succession education is the result of the process of interpreting mythical text and applying the result to life by utilizing the structure of myth and the topic of myth, embodied in the essence, performance and attitude, which are the core concepts of the Korean language and curriculum. The significance of this study is that it has been demonstrated that classical literature can be useful as an educational sanction for the succession of tradition. We hoped that this study will serve as an opportunity to revitalize discussions.
