- Abstract
- This study aims to estimate the value of an Alternative Foods Industrialization Center to facilitate early industrialization in the growing alternative food market. Using the Contingent Valuation Method(CVM), the non-market value of the Alternative Foods Industrialization Center was assessed. The survey targeted consumers in 14 cities and counties in Jeonbuk Province to evaluate their willingness to pay. The willingness-to-pay was measured through a Double-Bounded Dichotomous Choice(DB) survey method to determine the economic value of the Alternative Foods Industrialization Center. To identify variables that may influence consumers’ willingness to pay, explanatory variables were constructed based on prior studies, focusing on factors such as ethical consumption, environmental awareness, and perceptions of alternative foods. Additionally, individual characteristics such as vegetarian status, gender, age, marital status, and education level were included as variables. The estimation results indicated that ethical consumption, perceptions of alternative foods, (semi-)vegetarian status, and education level were significant variables influencing willingness to pay. This study utilized the Contingent Valuation Method(CVM) to quantify the value and indirect benefits of the non-market good, the Alternative Food Industrialization Center. Since the responses were derived based on a hypothetical scenario, there are limitations in directly applying the results to real-world contexts. However, it is considered that the findings can serve as foundational data for benefit analysis, enabling the estimation of the effects of technologies and projects, especially for public-interest initiatives like the Alternative Food Industrialization Center.
