Abstract

Previous research in academia on the Xifeng Xichagou site has primarily focused on identifying the resident group that constructed the site, specifically their ethnic affiliation, through archaeological analysis. While previous studies have relied heavily on archaeological methods, this paper approaches the site from a literary-historical perspective, considering the international situation of East Asia at the time. The study first provides a foundational understanding of the site based on past research and the contents of the 2022 published report. It then examines the political circumstances of the Liaodong region in the 2nd to 1st centuries BCE and the historical movements of northern nomadic groups, such as the Xiongnu, Wuhuan, and Xianbei, to explore the identity of the group that constructed the Xichagou site. Additionally, from the perspective of a scholar specializing in the history of Buyeo, the paper presents opinions on how to interpret the relationship between the group that constructed the Xichagou site and the Buyeo people.
