- Abstract
- In recent years, for the need of meaning, Chinese language has absorbed a large number of foreign scientific and technological concepts and things. As a result, many scientific and technological loanwords have been produced. To better understand the rules of this absorption process, it is crucial to analyze the characteristics of scientific and technological loanwords.
This paper conducts a quantitative analysis of scientific and technological loanwords from 2006 to 2018 based on the books 『Hanyuxinciyu』 series. The premise of the quantitative analysis is to define the scope of research objects and establish an independent database. Therefore, this paper is mainly divided into two parts. First part is to define the scientific and technological loanwords. Second part is to find the corresponding words and to analyze their characteristics. The analysis of loanwords focus on four aspects - content, structure, borrowing and use condition. With this analysis, we can better understand the science & cultural exchanges between China and other countries, as well as the future trends.
