Abstract
In the past, there was a common understanding that kidnappings were usually committed for money. The kidnapper had to arrange meet-up locations to receive the requested amount. The meet-up location was the key to tracking and arresting the culprit. However, in modern times, prostitution and organ trafficking provide self-sufficient sources of monetary return, disincentivizing the kidnappers to request ransom. Thus, the method of tracking and arresting criminals has changed. Films reflect the times. The same is true for kidnapping and rescue action films. Instead of evidence from calls or meet-ups, other clues for tracking the culprit surface, whether it be a business card, a plate number, or a private loan organization. The original format of the kidnapping and rescue films, which end with defeating the final villain and rescuing the victim, remains unchanged. However, since the tracking methods have transformed according to the changes in society, the necessity to systematize the modern narrative structure through analyses of modern kidnapping and rescue action films has arisen. Accordingly, analyses were made on <Taken> (2008), <The Man from Nowhere> (2010), and <Unstoppable> (2018), organizing the structure and peculiarities of the respective narrative. The writer anticipates that this study will help understand the narrative of modern kidnapping and rescue films and provide guidance to scriptwriting.
