- Abstract
- Acute appendicitis is a disease resulting from inflammationof the appendix. The most common symptoms and physicalexaminations are the following: right lower abdomen pain, tenderness, rebound tenderness, nausea, vomiting, andfever. The clinician makes a diagnosis based on thesesymptoms and physicals along with ultrasonography orradiologic imaging, such as computed tomography (CT),forviewing of the inflamed appendix. In this case a sevenyear-old-male visited the Emergency Room with abdominalpain and tendernessin in the right lower quadrant, whosesymptoms disappeared spontaneously without treatment, although the bedside ultrasonography showed an inflamedappendix. The patient underwent surgery and the operationfindings indicated a concordant diagnosis. We report thiscase as the cardinal symptom of acute appendicitis hasbeen right lower quadrant pain for many years, which maylead to misdiagnosis.
