- Abstract
- The capacity to effectively and safely swallow or eat is one of the most basic human needs and also can be a great pleasure. As people grow older, the ability to swallow, a function very much taken for granted, undergoes changes that increase the risk for disordered swallowing. Changes in physiology with aging are seen in brain, motor system and sensory system in both symptomatic and asymptomatic older individuals. This article reviews these changes in swallowing function with aging. (JKDS 2013;3:17-19)
