일제강점기 대전비행장의 건설과 전시 운용, 그리고 해방 후 변화
초록
In the early 1920s, Japan constructed airfields in key regions of the Korean Peninsula to strengthen its air power. The Daejeon Airfield also appears to have started around 1924 as a temporary landing strip in the Balam-ri area along the Daejeoncheon Stream, but it seems to have been used only briefly. Subsequently, a more permanent airfield, including runways, was built in the Pyeong-ri area of Yucheon-myeon. The expanded Daejeon Airfield of the 1940s appears to have inherited these earlier facilities. During the Asia-Pacific War, Daejeon Airfield underwent significant changes. In particular, between 1944 and 1945, the airfield was expanded to include two runways, running in the east-west and north-south directions. An aviation lighthouse was installed nearby, and as part of Japan's mainland decisive battle strategy, the Korean Peninsula was designated a key battleground. The airfield was transformed into a major base for suicide attack aircraft operations, with 143 single-engine small aircraft stationed there by the time of Japan's defeat. After liberation, the airfield came under U.S. military control and was used for military purposes. It was later transferred to the South Korean government and military, becoming the site of the Air Force Aviation School and the Air Force Education Command during the Korean War. However, the airfield was closed in the 1980s due to the development of Dunsan New Town. This article describes the construction, characteristics, wartime operations, and post-liberation changes of Daejeon Airfield under Japanese rule. Through this, it examines the regional characteristics of Japan's military invasion policy
