불성 해석의 다층성 – 축도생 불성관의 본유·당유 해석 재검토

초록

This article reexamines the multilayered determination of Buddha- nature in the Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra (大般涅槃經) within Chinese Buddhist thought, focusing on Zhu Daosheng (竺道生). It clarifies how the three categories-Originally Endowed Buddha-nature (C. benyou 本有), To-be- attained Buddha-nature (C. dangyou 當有), and Buddha-nature as the proper cause (C. zhengin 正因)-are interconnected and mutually adjusted. The earlier fascicles of the sūtra underwrite the benyou dimension, whereas the later orientation toward emptiness (空) and the Middle Way (中道) grounds the dangyou dimension; the two are coordinated not by opposition but by causal continuity. In this way, benyou and dangyou emerge as co-ordinated strata within a causal continuum. This reconstruction suggests that Chinese theories of Buddha-nature should be understood as a multilayered causal structure in which benyou, zhengin, and dangyou mutually complement one another.
