문화기억과 시각기호를 기반으로 살펴본 한·중 꽃의 이미지 비교 연구

A Study of Contemporary Flower Paintings in Korea and China Based on Cultural Memory and Visual Semiotics

초록

This study examines floral imagery in contemporary Korean and Chinese painting from a visual culture perspective, with a focus on compositional strategies and meaning-making structures. Addressing the lack of image-level analytical frameworks in existing thematic or art-historical studies, it proposes a three-layer model—“visual sign, symbolic meaning, and cultural memory”—grounded in Jan Assmann’s theory of cultural memory and visual semiotics. Through qualitative case analysis, the study explores how formal elements such as colour, composition, form, and material generate symbolic meanings and contribute to cultural memory. The findings indicate that while both contexts engage with themes of life and existence, they differ markedly in visual sign selection, symbolization strategies, and modes of cultural memory reconstruction. This study contributes a culturally grounded, multilayered approach to comparative visual culture research.
