재덕겸비의 균형과 여성 글쓰기 전략 -『중향사(眾香詞)』화훼사(花卉詞)를 중심으로
초록
This study examines how women writers of the Ming and Qing periods expressed and negotiated their inner selves under the ideological framework of balancing talent and virtue, focusing on flower ci in Zhongxiangci. While previous studies have treated women’s ci primarily as lyrical expression, this paper reinterprets it as a constrained writing strategy shaped by collective modes of expression through floral imagery. It reviews the editorial characteristics of Zhongxiangci and analyzes the shared expressive codes formed through recurring floral motifs. It then explores how the ideology of balancing talent and virtue structures women’s emotional expression, focusing on key floral images such as begonia, hibiscus, plum blossom, willow, lotus, bamboo, and chrysanthemum. The analysis shows that begonia and hibiscus represent external beauty and its instability, plum blossoms embody moral integrity and inner tension, and willow conveys emotional fragility. Lotus transforms sensual desire into a purified form, bamboo signifies restrained integration of thought and emotion, and chrysanthemum represents emotional stability and self-sufficiency. In conclusion, floral imagery in Zhongxiangci functions as a symbolic mediator that negotiates the tension between talent and virtue. Through these images, women writers articulate their inner selves indirectly, revealing women’s writing as an active strategy formed within ideological constraints.
