우리나라 CBDC 도입 가능성 점검: 스테이블코인과의 조화에 초점

· Research topics: A Study on the Prospects of r-CBDC and w-CBDC Issuance and Their Policy Implications, Based on a Comprehensive Analysis of Global CBDC Adoption Trends and Korea’s Institutional and Market Environment · Research background: With the rapid growth of virtual assets and the DeFi ecosystem, concerns over financial stability have intensified. In response, central banks around the world are studying the necessity of issuing central bank digital currencies (CBDC). Korea, too, faces increasing debate over whether to introduce a CBDC and what policy direction it should take. · Differences from prior research: While prior research has mainly focused on technical design or international case studies, this study distinguishes itself by integrating an analysis of r-CBDC, w-CBDC, and stablecoins, reflecting Korea’s domestic environment and recent discussions in the National Assembly. · Research method: Through literature review and comparative analysis, this study examines global cases and Korea’s institutional landscape to derive policy implications. · Research results: In the short term, the likelihood of r-CBDC becoming a universal payment method remains low, whereas w-CBDC shows greater potential for use in international trade and financial transactions. Meanwhile, the ongoing legislative discussions on stablecoins regulation in the National Assembly are expected to play a complementary role in Korea’s future digital currency policy framework. · Contribution points and expected effects: This study provides a policy-oriented perspective for Korea’s CBDC and stablecoins development, offering foundational insights to policymakers seeking to balance innovation with financial stability.
