초록
This study aims to identify patterns of social isolation among young adults based on their social relationships, social support, and withdrawal. Additionally, it aims to examine the factors influencing each pattern. Latent class analysis was conducted on 1,128 socially isolated and withdrawn young adults aged 19 to 34 using data from the “2022 Survey on Young Adults’ Life.” Additionally, multinomial logistic regression analysis was performed to examine the predictors of social isolation and withdrawal for each type. The analysis revealed a five latent class solution: (1) ‘relationship-deficient with high family and acquaintance support (19.54%)’, (2) ‘withdrawn with high family support (17.44%)’, (3) ‘relationship-deficient and withdrawn with high formal support (13.3%)’, (4) ‘relationship-deficient with low formal support (15.66%)’, and (5) ‘relationship-deficient with low acquaintance and formal support (34.04%)’. The results of the multinomial logistic regression analysis indicated that single-person household status, depressive symptoms, and subjective health predicted the classification of social isolation patterns. Among the socially isolated types, the 'relationship-deficient and withdrawn with high formal support' and the 'withdrawn with high family support' were found to be the most vulnerable groups. Research and policy implications for addressing social isolation among young adults regarding the patterns are discussed.
