성별과 나이에 따른 한·중 칭찬화행 양상 대조 연구

초록

This paper aims to discover the differences and similarities of compliment between male and female of Korean and Chinese native speakers aged in their 20s and 50s, with a focus on the influential factors of gender and age on the speech acts. Gender and age are recognized as an important topic and significant factors which influencing language change in sociolinguistics. It is also regarded as an major variable influencing language use in pragmatics. Focusing on these two factors, a survey by using unstructured interviews was conducted with 30 male and female of Korean and Chinese native speakers within each age group, as to reveal the differences and similarities in the term of subject, topic, linguistic expression of the compliment performed by each group. And the results was found that, firstly, in the term of subject factor, only KNS 20’F(female) and  CNS 20’F(female) was show similarities, while difference was showed in all of other groups, indicating that intimacy emerged as a significant factor influencing compliment behavior among Korean native speakers. Secondly, in the term of topic, except for KNS 20’F(female) group, the ability was the most frequently discussed topic among all other groups, showing that ability is valued in modern society. The topic of appearance was also prevalent among the 20s group, though the proportions differed notably between KNS 20s and CNS 20s, suggesting a variance in perceptions between the two cultures. Thirdly, in the term of linguistic expressions, both Korean and Chinese native speakers commonly utilized positive adjectives and sentence structures such as 'V', 'Adv+V', 'S+V'. There were, however, semantic distinctions, with Korean speakers often expressing compliments through thanks, congratulations, recognition and appreciation for effort and hardship, whereas such expressions were less prevalent among Chinese speakers.
