공연 각색에서의 서사 전환 연구 – S.채트먼 서사 이론과 스토리텔링의 전환 방식을 중심으로 -

초록

This study explores the patterns of narrative transformation that generate new meanings in the process of performance adaptation. Based on Seymour Chatman's narrative theory, it analyzes the narrative structure of performances and applies the seven transformation methods from storytelling theory to analyze the patterns of narrative transformation that appear in the adaptation process. The study establishes a performance narrative structure by applying Chatman's narrative theory to performance, including the medium-specific elements of performance, and classifies the transformation patterns of events, characters, and settings that constitute the 'story' in the adaptation process into seven types. Using four adapted performances of the Jeju shamanic myth <Woncheongang Bonpuli> as examples, it empirically analyzes how the 'story' is transformed in the adaptation process. The study found that in the adaptation process, new meanings are derived through the combination of the original work's interpretation and contemporary context, and to convey these, the 'story' is reconstructed according to the seven transformation methods. The adapted performances create new meanings by inheriting or transforming the meaning of the original work, and go through a narrative reconstruction process to convey this to the audience through the performance medium. This study will provide guidelines in terms of the methodological aspect of performance adaptation and will contribute to future adaptation research and actual creative activities.
