This study introduces and systematically analyzes the new concept of the "hidden hero narrative" through an examination of Park Chan-wook's filmDecision to Leave. The hidden hero narrative refers to a character who, while not overtly central to the narrative, plays a crucial role in driving the overall story. In Decision to Leave, co-written by Park Chan-wook and Jeong Seo-kyeong, this hidden hero is embodied by the character Seo-rae, who brings a high level of narrative complexity and depth to the film. This research traces the gradual emergence of this hidden hero narrative fromThirstandThe Handmaiden, culminating inDecision to Leave. By highlighting the impact of this concept on narrative structures, this paper offers a new theoretical framework that distinguishes itself from existing narrative studies. The findings aim to provide filmmakers with innovative storytelling possibilities that transcend traditional narrative boundaries, enriching the narrative landscape with originality and depth.
