초록
This study aims to compare the novels of Chinese Korean writers Piao YuNan and Liu ZhengNan to reveal how the two authors construct images of Han Chinese as “the Other,” based on differences in their diasporic circumstances. Chinese Koreans are inherently a diasporic ethnic group, possessing both a national identity as Chinese citizens and an ethnic identity as part of the Korean nation. While living in China, they have maintained their ethnic identity by preserving their language, culture, and customs distinct from those of the Han Chinese, often residing in ethnically homogenous Korean enclaves. Meanwhile, some Chinese Koreans have migrated from these enclaves to multi-ethnic communities, resulting in diverse perceptions of Han Chinese and varying attitudes toward relationships with them. Since the era of reform and opening-up, and particularly after the normalization of China-Korea relations, many Chinese Koreans have migrated to South Korea or major cities in China, leading to a range of attitudes toward Han Chinese who moved into traditional Korean enclaves. Using the framework of comparative literary phenomenology, this study analyzes how each author represents Han Chinese in their works and seeks to explore how the process of othering Han Chinese within diasporic contexts is reflected in literature and to examine the social and cultural significance of these literary representations.
