학교 밖 청소년의 비행 피해 경험이 비행 가해 경험에 미치는 영향: 사회적 차별의 매개효과를 중심으로

The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of victimization experiences on delinquency among out-of-school youth and to examine the mediating effect of social discrimination on this relationship. Unlike previous studies that have focused on individual characteristics or environmental factors as risk factors for out-of-school youth delinquent behavior, this study focuses on victimization experiences and discrimination experiences in a social structural context. This study aims to provide a more complex and three-dimensional understanding of out-of-school youth delinquent behavior. We used secondary data from the “2023 Out-of-School Youth Survey” conducted by the Korea Youth Policy Research Institute from April to December 2023 as our primary data. The study included 2,486 out-of-school youth nationwide, and measured their experiences of delinquency victimization, delinquency harm, and social discrimination through a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 and Process Macro Model 4 (Hayes, 2022), and path analysis was used to examine the causal relationship between each variable. Bootstrapping was used to test the significance of mediating effects. The results of the study showed that out-of-school youth's experience of delinquency victimization had a significant positive effect on delinquency victimization, and social discrimination was found to play a partial mediating role in this relationship. This suggests that youth who have experienced delinquency victimization are more likely to experience social discrimination, which may lead to aggressive and delinquent behavior. These findings highlight the need to consider the social contexts in which out-of-school youth delinquency occurs and the psychological and emotional responses that arise from them, rather than viewing delinquent behavior as a simple individual aberration. In particular, the finding that structural factors such as social discrimination play a significant role in their delinquent behavior has important implications for policy and practice interventions. This study suggests that in order to prevent and intervene in out-of-school youth delinquency, it is necessary to develop integrated support systems that can reduce their experiences of victimization and social discrimination. Future research should include an in-depth analysis of different types of discrimination experiences and their mechanisms, as well as an exploration of institutional responses.
