초록
The cosmetics industry has become an important industry that contributes to the growth of the Korean economy through continuous scale growth and expansion of exports. However, COVID-19 is changing the type of cosmetics consumption. Therefore, in this study, trade data were used to analyze the import and export trends of the Korean cosmetics industry by country and item after the COVID-19 pandemic. The results of the study are as follows. First of all, the Korean cosmetics industry has grown at a rapid pace for 20 years, achieving an export amount of USD 7.66 billion and a trade surplus of USD 6.79 billion as of 2021. In particular, the export amount has grown more than 87 times compared to 2000. Exports to the United States, Japan, and China have steadily increased over the past 20 years, and in particular, exports of cosmetics to China showed a 92-fold difference in size from imports. Exports by item also increased by 25 times (lip cosmetics), 4 times (eye cosmetics), 17 times (manicure products and pedicure products), and 11 times (powder cosmetics), respectively, compared to 2000. It is positive that the Korean cosmetics industry continues to grow despite the COVID-19 epidemic, but the high dependence on exports and imports to specific countries needs to be improved through export diversification.
