탈성장과 능력: 잭슨의 ‘성장 없는 번영’ 논의를 중심으로
초록
Jackson’s discussion on ‘prosperity without growth’ is not yet very realistic in that it assumes harmony between a growth economy and a non-growth economy, but does not explicitly mention how to harmonize the two sectors. In addition, he connects the concept of prosperity without growth to Sen’s concept of capability, but evaluates Nussbaum’s view more highly than Sen’s view regarding capability. However, according to Sen, considering the diversity of value judgments and the heterogeneity of capability, Rawls's difference principle based on social basic goods may not only conflict with the principle of freedom, but may also have no redistributive effect. This criticism of Sen can be applied to Nussbaum’s view on capability as well, because Nussbaum’s view can lead to the result of undermining Sen’s view that connects capability with the possibility of real freedom. In a logical context, the possibility of prosperity without growth can be greatly expanded only when people can pursue various life possibilities according to their values or capabilities, breaking away from consumerism or the growth economy. This means that Jackson's discussion on degrowth can increase its logical completeness when it more actively accepts Sen’s view on capability.
