초록

The relationship between Zen and Doctrinism has been discussed and handed down since the days of the South and North dynasty in China. The South and North dynasty in China corresponds to the time when sects or schools were formed in Chinese Buddhism. In Doctrinism, it was presented as a chess theory, and the relationship between Zen and Doctrinism emerged as Zen-sects emerged and developed in the days of Sui(隋) and Tang(唐). Guifeng-Jongmi(圭峯宗密, 780~841) tried to harmonize Zen and Doctrinism in DuXu(都序), saying Zen corresponds to Buddha's mind and Doctrinism corresponds to Buddha's word by contrasting the three cores of Zen and three kinds of doctrine of Doctrinism. However, since Mid-Tang, Zen and Doctrinism have developed greatly, and view-points of Zen and Doctrinism have almost unilaterally flowed into claims based on Zen-sects. For example, Shejiaoruchan(捨敎入禪)'s argument, which explains the core of Zen based on Doctrinism, has appeared largely. This trend appeared mainly after studying Doctrinism and moving toward Zen-sects. Since then, in the history of Zen-sects, the relationship between Zen and Doctrinism has been developed into three types: Chanjiao-chabie(禪敎差別), Chanjiao-yizhi(禪敎一致), and Chanjiao-ronghe(禪敎融合). Chanjiao-chabie is a claim that Zen and Doctrinism are discriminated, Chanjiao-yizhi is a claim that Zen and Doctrinism are unified, and Chanjiao-ronghe is a claim that Zen and Doctrinism are fused. These three positions are all discussed at the one-sided level of Zen sects, which strongly reflects the view that Zen is central and Doctrinism is helping Zen. However, regarding these view-points of Zen and Doctrinism, Yongsung-Jinjong(龍城震鐘, 1864~1940) acknowledged the independence of Zen and Doctrinism and put forward the view of Congjiao-lichan(從敎立禪). Congjiao-lichan is that Zen is established on the basis of Doctrinism, and Zen is complete on the basis of Doctrinism. This was a unique perspective demonstrated by Yongsung-Jinjong in the relationship between view-points of Zen and Doctrinism.
