초록

This study aimed to explore in-depth the perceptions of ex-service officers about their post-retirement life and to identify practical ways to improve their quality of life. This study utilised the Q methodology, which is suitable for examining individual subjectivity, to understand the subjective perceptions of ex-service officers' post-service life and the various challenges they face. In order to collect Q-samples on the perceptions of retired officers on their post-retirement life, a total of 140 Q-samples were constructed through literature review and in-depth interviews, and 40 Q-samples were finally selected. A P sample of 20 officers who are about to leave the military was selected and analysed using the Ken-Q programme. As a result of the study, the following four types of perceptions about life after military service were found. Type I is ‘anxious about choosing a career’. Type Ⅱ is ‘wanting to find the meaning of life’. Type Ⅲ is ‘seeking economic stability. Type Ⅳ is ‘seeking self-development for growth’. The results of the study showed significant results for each type, and based on these results, it is expected that it can contribute to substantially improving the quality of life of officers who are about to leave the military and provide a useful basis for policy makers in the future.
