초록
Of the 93 people who died in the military in 2022, 70 died due to suicide, accounting for 75.3% of all deaths in the military. In addition, in the past 10 years, the proportion of suicide among causes of death in the military has ranged from 61.3% to 80.6%. The problem of suicide in the military causes problems such as low morale, loss of combat power, and decreased public trust in the military. This problem of suicide within the military is an important issue in that it can have a negative impact on future national defense due to a decline in birth rates and military service resources. However, if military personnel fail to adapt to the new environment of the military, it can result in serious consequences such as desertion, self-harm, and in extreme cases, suicide. In this situation, military adaptation and stress-related factors known to affect suicide ideation among military service members can be seen as predictive factors for suicide. Additionally, failure to adapt military servie can affect psychological factors and affect negative emotions such as stress. Accordingly, this study was conducted with the purpose of verifying the relationship between unit adaptation, stress, suicide, and self-harm ideation, and through this, making policy recommendations to prevent accidents among military personnel. The result of this study, it was found that the mental and physical condition, willingness to perform duties, satisfaction with position and job, and perception of military officers, which are sub-factors in unit adaptation, did not have a direct effect on suicidal and self-harm ideation, but the mental and physical condition and perception of military officers were stressors. It was confirmed that it was a fully mediated model that influenced suicidal and self-harm ideation through mediation. In other words, if military personnel are mentally and physically stable and have a positive perception of military officers, it can be interpreted that if stress is reduced, suicidal and self-harm thoughts are reduced. Based on these results, it is necessary to apply improvement measures to the basic military welfare plan to check the mental and physical condition of military personnel. In addition, policy suggestions were made to improve the treatment of military executives so that military personnel can have a positive perception of executives, and to improve the education curriculum to strengthen military executives' capabilities such as communication and leadership.
