Digital Twin Application for Sustainable Third-Generation Crime Prevent Through Environmental Design

초록

Unpredictable urban crime trends require moving beyond conventional CPTED’s recurring limits—one-off implementation, reliance on experiential intuition, and weak maintenance—and operationalizing the “multi-dimensional sustainability” emphasized by third-generation CPTED. Based on a literature review, this study examines how digital twin technology—through continuous real-virtual linkage and iterative updating—can be integrated across the CPTED life cycle (planning-design-implementation-operation- maintenance). The review indicates that digital twins can help stabilize long-term CPTED effectiveness by integrating environmental and use-pattern data, visualizing vulnerabilities, and supporting the evaluation of design and maintenance options. However, implementation requires more than technology adoption: interoperable data standards and accountable interagency sharing, human-centered governance to manage error and bias, privacy and security safeguards, and institutionalized inclusive citizen participation.
