지속가능성의 위기와 불교경제학
초록
This Essay interprets today's sustainability crisis as a consequence of the combination of environmental and inequality issues, and seeks the solutions of this crisis based on Buddhist Economics. While the emergence of capitalist society underlies this crisis, realistically, it is extremely difficult to find a post-capitalist alternative. Therefore, a realistic solution to this crisis must be found in finding ways to address or alleviate inequality and environmental problems without rejecting capitalism. Therefore, the only solution to today's sustainability crisis lies in fdevising ways to address or mitigate inequality and environmental issues without rejecting capitalism. Buddhism can be seen as closer to a solution to the sustainability crisis than any other religion at first glance, in that it aims for the Middle Way—a point of balance that moves away from self-centered, selfish desires and pursues one's own interests—while simultaneously emphasizing the interconnectedness between humans and nature, and between humans themselves(so-called ‘interdependence’). Is this assessment valid? And what is its basis? Starting from this very question, this paper will examine the significance of the wisdom and teachings of Buddhism or Buddhist economics for people living in an era of sustainability crisis. In particular, it will assess the potential of Buddhist economics as an alternative economics for this time.
