DEA를 이용한 야구 국가대표팀 타자의 효율성 평가 – 2024 국제 야구경기대회(WBSC 프리미어 12)를 중심으로 –

초록
This study quantitatively evaluates the run production efficiency of national team hitters in the 2024 WBSC Premier12 using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Based on official World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) statistics, a total of 108 hitters from the top 12 national teams were selected as decision-making units (DMUs), applying a minimum plate appearance threshold to ensure sample representativeness. Plate appearances (PA) were used as the input variable, while total bases (TB), home runs (HR), runs batted in (RBI), and on-base plus slugging (OPS) were specified as output variables reflecting run contribution. Using an output-oriented approach, the CCR, BCC, and Super-CCR models identified two hitters as fully efficient across all models, and further distinguished the top-ranked performer. Scale efficiency analysis revealed that most hitters operate under increasing returns to scale (IRS), suggesting that expanded opportunities could generate more than proportional increases in output. Importantly, country-level efficiency rankings did not align with final tournament standings, indicating that overall performance depends on multiple factors beyond batting efficiency, such as pitching and tactical execution. By focusing on a short-term international tournament with constrained opportunities, this study provides a data-driven framework for player selection and tactical decision-making in high-stakes environments.
