언론사의 정파성에 따른 이태원 참사 뉴스 프레임 비교 연구 : 토픽모델링과 의미연결망 분석을 중심으로

This study was conducted to examine how the media reported the Itaewon Tragedy that occurred in 2022 and to investigate the differences in news framing based on the partisanship of media. The analysis focused on Chosun Ilbo, JoongAng Ilbo, Dong-A Ilbo, Hankyoreh Shinmun, and Kyunghyang Shinmun. News articles were collected through BigKinds, and Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modeling was utilized to extract topics related to the Itaewon Tragedy. The framing of news was analyzed by forming a semantic network of the topics extracted through topic modeling to examine the attributes related to the Itaewon Tragedy and their contexts. The research results are as follows. First, the topics of media differed based on the period and partisanship. Progressive media had a higher proportion of topics related to assigning responsibility for the tragedy, while conservative media focused on topics centered around the tragedy itself. Second, media frames varied based on the period and partisanship. However, an attribution of responsibility frame, with words related to the causes and responsibility for the tragedy, was clearly present in both cases. Third, media with different partisanship had different attribution of responsibility frames. Progressive media consistently emphasized the responsibility of the relevant government agency, while conservative media continued to emphasize a dispersed attribution of responsibility frame involving various institutions. Based on these results, the implications and limitations of media reporting on disasters were discussed.
