아르 브뤼(Art Brut)에 표현된 동물 이미지의 조형적 특성과 형성 기제 연구 —아르 브뤼 코리아의 사례를 중심으로—

This study examines recurring animal imagery in Korean Art Brut and explores its significance in understanding artists’ cognitive processes and visual language. Focusing on works by artists affiliated with Art Brut Korea, it analyzes the types, formal characteristics, and formative mechanisms of animal imagery.Based on field research, 90 works by 9 artists were selected for analysis. Using visual perception theory as an analytical framework, the study investigates the recurring patterns and visual structures of animal imagery.The results show that animal imagery can be categorized into three types: wild animals, companion animals, and imaginary animals. Major formal characteristics include flatness, repetition and proliferation of motifs, and repetition of circular forms. These characteristics are closely related to childlike visual perception and the cognitive traits of artists on the autism spectrum. The findings highlight the distinctive visual language and aesthetic value of Korean Art Brut.
