교원 창업의 시대별 비교와 제도적 과제 : 이공계 교원 창업 사례를 중심으로

This study investigates university faculty entrepreneurship by comparing cases across different time periods inscience and engineering fields. Using in-depth interviews with representative faculty entrepreneurs, we exploreentrepreneurial motivation, government and university support, and perceptions of conflict of interest (COI). Findings reveal that faculty entrepreneurship is largely viewed as a public mission of transferring researchoutcomes to society rather than individual profit-seeking. However, awareness of COI remains limited, partly due toambiguous institutional frameworks. Despite the gradual systematization of support policies, faculty entrepreneursperceive a gap between policy design and practical effectiveness, highlighting the need for more tailored andspecialized support. Ideal models include faculty participation as technology advisors (CTOs) rather than CEOs,collaboration with young entrepreneurs, and partnerships with serial entrepreneurs. Improving departmentalperceptions through profit-sharing and fostering open dialogue on COI are also essential. This study contributes to the literature by identifying evolving challenges in faculty entrepreneurship andsuggesting directions for policy improvement. We emphasize the need for re-approval systems to monitorpost-approval ventures, targeted entrepreneurship education and exit strategies, and stronger university?industrycollaboration to sustain faculty entrepreneurship ecosystems.
