수사경찰에 대한 CSI 효과 연구 : 과학수사 압박과 DNA 증거분석에 대한 인식

초록

This study aimed to empirically analyze the impact of forensic science pressure that investigation police receive from case participants on their perceptions of DNA evidence analysis and DNA database operations. While existing CSI effect research has predominantly focused on jurors or general citizens, this study sought to identify the indirect CSI effect on law enforcement practitioners. A survey was conducted with 430 investigation police officers working in violent crime, criminal investigation, and women and youth investigation departments at police stations nationwide. Multivariate multiple regression analysis was performed with forensic science pressure as the independent variable and DNA evidence probative value perception, relative superiority of physical evidence, effectiveness of DNA evidence analysis, educational needs, and DNA database expansion policy as dependent variables. The analysis revealed that investigation police experience considerable levels of forensic science pressure (mean 3.65/5 points), and this pressure had statistically significant positive effects on all dependent variables. Structural pressure had a greater impact than individual characteristics, and high confidence in DNA evidence (mean 8.70/10 points) and a preference for physical evidence were confirmed. In conclusion, this study empirically verified that the CSI effect actually occurs in investigation settings and significantly influences investigation police's perceptions of forensic science. This suggests the necessity of adjusting public unrealistic expectations, strengthening forensic science capabilities of field practitioners, and providing institutional support to ensure fairness.
