『유가론기』(瑜伽論記)에 나타난 신방(神昉)의 유식 사상

Although Shinbang has been the most brilliant Silla monk who had been active under Xuanzang (⽞奘) of the Tang Dynasty, his main writ- ings are nearly not delivered. In this paper, as a part of the work of restoring his thought, all of the interpretations of Shinbang, which were quoted in Yugarongi, had been analyzed. His interpretation, espe- cially, was quoted twice in the section of Seopgyeoltaekbun (「攝決擇分」) that discusses the discrimination (決擇) of the kleśa (煩惱), and once in the section that discusses discrimination of the five entities (五事). First, Dunryun (遁倫), in order to clearly reveal the meaning of a specific wording that discriminates the greed-kleśa (貪愛煩惱), had quot- ed the interpretation by Shinbang. And to provide one case as example that had independently interpreted the meaning that is hidden in the body that defines the kleśa that has a entity (有事煩惱) and the kleśa that does not have a entity (無事煩惱), Dunryun had quoted the inter- pretation by Shinbang. Although the quoted phrases are fragmentary, it allows us to guess that Shinbang was a well-versed scholar regarding the kleśa theory. But, when seen from the aspect of the importance of the topic or the aspect of the degree of difficulty of resolution, Shinbang’s excellent academic quality is revealed well in the passage that analyzes the mu- tual inclusion between the five entities and the four principles. In the Mind-Only thought, the five entities are the philosophical category that speaks for the truth of Mahāyāna. And the four principles are the practical regulations presented for the proper practice. Shinbang’s in- terpretation differs from that of the commentators at the time, in that he defined the four principles on the basis of word, meaning, mind and object, before interpreting the body of Seopgyeoltaekbun. Through it, between the categories of the five entities and the four principles, a logical basis behind mutual including and excluding each other is presented.
