인공지능 슈퍼컴퓨터의 묵시록 : 1990년대 초반 PC통신 기반 SF에 나타난 과학기술 인식과 내셔널리즘적 서사의 특징에 관한 연구

초록

This study analyzes the science fiction (SF) creative ecosystem that developed through PC communication networks in early 1990s Korea and examines the characteristics of scientific perception and nationalistic narratives present in these works. During this period, SF literature was formed and disseminated through the digital space of PC communication as a new medium, reflecting a complex combination of ideals of technological nation-building and nationalistic aspirations. The research primarily analyzes representative SF works that were serialized on PC communication networks of that era, focusing on Lee Seong- soo's “Atlantis Rhapsody” and “Curse of the Sphinx,” and Im Jun-hong's “The Book of Nemesis.” In these works, AI supercomputers consistently appear as important motifs, alongside narratives depicting a unified Korea that has emerged as a technological powerhouse and its confrontation with threatening external forces. This study reveals that these works exhibit a unique ambivalence of “exclusive nationalism with transnational imagination,” outwardly emphasizing nationalistic narratives while actively adopting various cultural codes from Western SF and Japanese subculture. In particular, it demonstrates how AI supercomputers are ambivalently portrayed as both technological messiahs that can save humanity and apocalyptic entities that threaten omniscient surveillance and control. Through this analysis, the study identifies how early 1990s Korean SF reflected the complex aspirations of the era surrounding cutting-edge technology and national identity, while hybridizing global cultural codes. This approach provides important insights for understanding the developmental process of Korean SF literary history and the formation mechanisms of the early digital era's literary ecosystem.
