The two-dimensional conjugated polymer (g-C3N4)has gained broad attention as a low-cost, metal-free, and visible light responsive photocatalyst in the field of environmental applications. The g-C3N4-based materials possess excellent electronic band structures, an electron-rich nature, basic surface functionalities, and high physicochemical stability. In this chapter, we described advances in photocatalytic processes for the photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants. Noteworthy advances in our understanding of the major issues and the improvement of a proficient photocatalyst have been made. Also, we gave a complete overview of the most recent advances in the morphology control and growth mechanism of g-C3N4 and its composite materials toward the visible light-driven photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants. © 2019 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
