초록

“Appreciation of Joseon’s Independence” is Han Yong-un’s Declaration of Independence. The modern era of Korea was the nourishment that grew Manhae(萬海). “Appreciation of Joseon’s Independence” does not only contain Korea’s independence. The world situation and Korea's suffering history are revealed. Manhae's observation and analysis of World War I and the world situation are ultimately intended to predict Korea's fate and prepare for its response. In “Appreciation of Joseon’s Independence”, Manhae planted hope for Korea’s future regarding nationalism and the results of the Paris Peace Conference, but also keenly analyzed its essence. Although imperialism and aggression have disappeared, the independence of weak peoples has progressed, and Japan has also said that it will allow Joseon's independence, the Allied Powers also say that the means and method of solving the problem is quasi-militarism. Moreover, it was predicted that Japan would trigger a global war. However, Manhae said that if Japan's approval of Joseon's independence was achieved, it would not only serve as a bridgehead for friendship between Joseon and Japan, but also as a bridgehead for Joseon's import of Western civilization and an opportunity for the two countries to enjoy peace in the East. The freedom and peace that Manhae emphasized are not only his ideas but also the essence of independence. However, the academic world still recognizes that his freedom and peace were formed based on modern times, modern trends, world situations, and Western philosophical ideas. However, Manhae declared that it was an excellent religion that was outstanding for the advancement of civilization and culture, and for human civilization.
