초록

This study aims to establish a scholarly foundation for effective prevention and response to the increasing elderly crime victimization. To achieve this, study utilized data from the "2020 Elderly Living Conditions Survey" to examine the structural relationship between elderly discrimination experiences and crime victimization, considering factors related to mental health (depression) and economic status (monthly income). Summarizing the analysis results, this study find the following: First, elderly discrimination experiences statistically (+) significantly influence crime victimization. Second, in the relationship between elderly discrimination experiences and crime victimization, depression has a statistically significant moderating effect. Third, income level significantly moderates the effect of depression on the relationship between discrimination experiences and crime victimization. Higher levels of depression increase the impact of income on discrimination experiences as a promoting factor, while lower depression levels act as a protective factor. This effect is more pronounced with higher monthly income. Fourth, irrespective of monthly income, groups with lower discrimination experiences have lower crime victimization rates. Based on these findings, this study suggest the following policy recommendations to improve the perception of discrimination against the elderly: 1) Provide youth employment opportunities and introduce mentoring programs to promote intergenerational solidarity. 2) Prioritize policies that consider the mental health status (depression) and monthly income of the elderly, and offer personalized policy support. These measures are aimed at addressing the increasing issue of elderly crime victimization and fostering a more inclusive society.
