Induction heating (IH) is emerging as a transformative, sustainable, and eco-friendly solution for energy transfer, offering rapid heating, enhanced safety, cleanliness, and automatic pot detection, particularly in domestic induction heating (DIH) appliances. However, the dynamic nature of IH loads poses significant challenges for accurate load parameter identification (LPI) and robust controller design for power management. This review presents a systematic and comprehensive analysis of the LPI and power management techniques in DIH appliances, highlighting recent advancements, challenges, future research opportunities, and recommendations. Unlike existing review literature, which is relatively limited and generally addresses IH, this paper provides a DIH-focused review and organizes DIH control into two major categories: load parameter identification (LPI), which models IH loads (e.g., resistance Re and inductance Le) using both online and offline methods; and power management techniques for ferromagnetic appliances (FMAs), non-ferromagnetic appliances (NFMAs), and all-metal appliances (AMAs), differentiated by distinct behaviors they exhibit. By using systematic classification, this paper addresses key gaps and provides a smooth roadmap for readers to understand existing methods and guide future developments in DIH control. © 1975-2011 IEEE.
