The Buddhist historical origins of Seongcheol's theory of the Taego Legitimate - Focusing on 《The lineage of Korean Buddhism》 -

초록

Ven. Toe-ong Seongcheol's(退翁性澈) theory of Korean Buddhist dharma lineage clarified the identity of modern Korean Buddhism. This was against the principles established by Cheongheo Hyujeong and his disciples. The incident began when Taego Order put forward Taego Bowu as its founder. Lee Jong-wook(李種郁) and Lee Bul-hwa(李佛化) were at the center and Jinul was promoted to the position of patriarch. the debate over who would become the founder, but the controversy over who would become the founder, which began during the Japanese colonial period, continued until the 1970s, and its aftershocks still remain today. Seongcheol worked hard to reform Korean Buddhism after liberation, but he actively responded to the issues of Buddhist Lineage and the founder of the Jogye Order by writing about them. He recognized the principles and traditions of continuing the lineage of teacher and disciple as principles. Seongcheol held the position that the approval and transmission of enlightenment was achieved through direct dialogue between teacher and disciple. Seongcheol also held a strong position that the fusion of Seonhak and Gyohak was far from the pure orthodoxy of Seon. Although the issue of dharma Lineage is still unresolved in Korean Buddhism, Seongcheol's argument is strongly persuasive because it is based on tradition.
