성수동 유휴산업시설 재생 공간의 데페이즈망 표현 특성 연구

초록

(Background and Purpose) Changes in industrial and social structures have given rise to a variety of idle industrial facilities. With the growing public interest in culture, these are increasingly being repurposed into commercial and cultural spaces that meet the needs of the public. However, despite this interest, there has been a dearth of research into the architectural and design methods and characteristics of these regenerated spaces, based on regional analysis. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the expressive characteristics of the regenerated spaces of idle industrial facilities in the Seongsu-dong semi-industrial area of ​​Seoul by applying the surrealist technique of Dépaysement. Through this analysis, the study aims to develop differentiated spatial design strategies. (Method) The research method clarifies the theoretical foundation and direction of the study by examining the current status of urban regeneration and idle industrial facilities in Seongsu-dong, as well as the concept of Dépaysement networks, through prior research and literature. Chapter 3 extracts the characteristics and expressive techniques of Dépaysement networks derived from prior research analysis, including "formal transformation, juxtaposition of heterogeneous materials, and boundary ambiguity," and presents them as the basis for analysis. Chapter 4 defines the case study area as the Seongsu-dong semi-industrial area, where idle industrial facility regeneration spaces have been revitalized, and analyzes the case of the regeneration of idle industrial facilities in Seongsu-dong. (Results) The results of the reproduction cases analyzed using the Dépaysement expression technique showed that the scale transformation resulted in the exaggeration and reduction of spatial objects, and the double overlapping, through the transparency of glass, expressed the boundaries of space as ambiguous and unfamiliar. The distortion of shapes, unusual objects, and optical illusions, which frequently appear in surrealist paintings, were given less weight compared to other elements, as the old, idle industrial facilities in Seongsu-dong already served as important elements of spatial expression.(Conclusions) The spatial design characteristics revealed in the case of the regeneration of the idle industrial facility in Seongsu-dong go beyond the standard physical restoration, considering past history and regional characteristics. They act as a medium that stimulates users' questions, encouraging them to infer memories and traces. This study suggests that the defamiliarization technique is an experimental design strategy that transcends the aesthetics of simple "defamiliarization" and enables the multi-layered expression of irrationality and temporality in reclaimed spaces. This strategy goes beyond simply evoking visual impact; it stimulates users to reconstruct traces of the past and fosters a reinterpretation of place identity. It is hoped that the results of this study will serve as a design strategy that can be combined with artistic trends in the regeneration design of idle industrial facilities.
