초록
This study aimed to examine the effects of parental attachment on cyber delinquency among late adolescents and to investigate the mediating effect of depression in this relationship. As digital environments and smart devices have become increasingly integrated into everyday life, adolescents’ online activities have expanded, making cyber delinquency an important social issue. In particular, late adolescence is a developmental stage characterized by increasing psychological independence from parents while emotional instability may still persist. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the influence of both parental relationships and emotional factors. Accordingly, this study sought to comprehensively examine the structural relationships among parental attachment, depression, and cyber delinquency. For this purpose, data from the seventh wave of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS 2018), conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute (NYPI), were utilized, and a total of 1,525 participants were selected for the final analysis. Data were analyzed using SPSS 26.0 and PROCESS Macro 4.2 (Model 4). Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, regression analysis, and bootstrapping-based mediation analysis were conducted. The results indicated that parental attachment was significantly negatively associated with depression, whereas depression was significantly positively associated with cyber delinquency. In addition, while the direct path between parental attachment and cyber delinquency was not statistically significant, the indirect path through depression was found to be significant. These findings suggest that depression significantly mediates the relationship between parental attachment and cyber delinquency and indicate the possibility of a full mediating effect of depression. This implies that parental attachment is associated with the emotional state of late adolescents and that such emotional factors may also be related to cyber delinquency This study is meaningful in that it explains the relationship between parental attachment and cyber delinquency through an indirect pathway involving emotional factors rather than through a simple direct effect. In particular, it provides empirical evidence that the influence of parental attachment may continue to persist during late adolescence. Furthermore, the findings suggest the need to strengthen emotional bonds between parents and children and to establish mental health support systems aimed at reducing depression in order to prevent cyber delinquency among adolescents.
