한국불교 기록문화유산의 디지털 활용 방안 연구

초록

Buddhism, which was introduced to the Korean Peninsula in the late 4th century, has left behind a wide range of Buddhist documentary cultural heritages (hereinafter referred to as "documentary heritage") over approximately 1,700 years. Currently, in addition to basic research efforts on these documentary heritages, follow-up projects such as (1) photographing Buddhist sutra plates or their printed versions, (2) building a database of original texts, and (3) translating them into Korean are being actively carried out. However, digital services for these materials remain primarily focused on constructing archives that preserve the value of the original sources, and thus have not yet reached the stage of full digital transformation or active utilization. In this context, this study first aims to introduce the current status of database construction for documentary heritage in Korea. Next, it will present an overview and direction of the research project titled “The Road of a Monk’s life: A Study on the Digital Curation of Monk’s Collection in the Joseon Dynasty—Focused on Place” (hereinafter referred to as The Road of a Monk’s Life), which examines the collected works of Joseon-era Buddhist monks included in The Collected Works of Korean Buddhism. Furthermore, it will explore how this research methodology can be expanded as a digital-based approach to the study of documentary heritage. The Road of a Monk’s Life research project focuses on three selected monastic anthologies from the Joseon Dynasty: Punggyejip (楓溪集, 17th century), Seoldamjip (雪潭集, 18th century), and Beomhae Seonsa Yugok (梵海禪師遺稿, 19th century). The project aims to establish a "knowledge network of monastic anthologies" and to propose a new research methodology based on digital media for exploring and utilizing these works. The Road of a Monk’s Life project is expected to suggest possibilities for expressing and sharing humanities knowledge through data-driven approaches. In the future, it could expand in scale to include a wide range of digital applications for Korean Buddhist documentary heritage, including both monastic anthologies and the Tripitaka Koreana.
