초록

As research on student voice continues to grow, this paper seeks to rethink its meaning from the philosophical perspective of Stanley Cavell. Cavell, a prominent thinker concerned with the notion of voice, addressed themes such as the human condition, alterity, singularity, and the relationship between the private and the public. This paper explores three central questions. First, how can students’ differences be understood in respecting their voices, viewed through Cavell’s concepts of skeptical truth and acknowledgment? Second, how can each student’s singularity be perceived in the expression of one’s own voice, drawing on Cavell’s ideas of moral perfectionism and self-intelligibility? Third, how can student participation be considered when bringing their voices into the public sphere? This question is examined in relation to Cavell’s reflections on the dynamics between the private and the public, particularly through the notion of self-transformation and the process by which individual voices contribute to social change. The paper concludes with suggestions for educational practice based on the implications of Cavell’s philosophy for fostering student voice. The significance of this article lies in its ethical rethinking of student voice, emphasizing students’ singularity beyond the prevailing political focus on expanding students’ rights.
