Production of biopolymers and feed protein from food wastes

The industrialization of biopolymer and protein feed production is facing major issues due to an increase in the raw material cost. Globally, food waste is a major burden with severe environmental impacts, however it has the potential to be used as a carbon source for the production of bioproducts. This chapter deals with the conversion of food waste into value-added bioproducts like biopolymers, single-cell oil, polysaccharides, baker’s yeast, and single-cell protein. The chapter also deals with the major economic aspects needed to move these production process toward commercialization. © 2020 Elsevier Inc.
