초록
This study examined the mediating effect of depression moderated by self-esteem on the relation between perceived stress and suicidal ideation in small businesses owners who have closed or are planning to close their business in the COVID-19 pandemic. A survey was conducted with 151 small business owners, and the data was analyzed using SPSS 25.0 and PROCESS Macro 4.1. The result are as follows. First, suicidal ideation, perceived stress and depression were positively associated with each other, and self-steem was negatively associated with the other variables. Second, the mediation effect of depression on the relation between perceived stress and suicidal ideation was significant. Additionally, low level of self-esteem had a moderation effect on the relation between depression and suicidal ideation. The mediation effect of depression on the relation between perceived stress and suicidal ideation was moderated by low level of self-esteem. This finding implies that perceived stress and depression in small business owners experiencing economic hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic may lead to suicidal ideation. This suggests that the intervention of a psychotherapy program is necessary to increase self-esteem.
