초록
Objectives: This study explores subjective perceptions to understand the types and characteristics of South Korean women in their thirties regarding baby boom generation mothers. Methods: Q-methodology was used to analyze the results. After constructing 128 Q populations through previous studies and interviews, 40 Q statements were extracted and 27 P samples were selected, followed by a Q sorting process. A principal component analysis was performed using a QUANL program. Results: Type 1 was ‘comradeship and friendship’, which pursues a lasting close relationship. Type 2 was ‘healthy independence and self-respecting state of affairs. Type 3 was ‘shared dream’, which pursues independence with a passive-ambient attitude. It appears that Korean women in their thirties have different perceptions of mothers with different motives and backgrounds. The directions Korean women in their thirties pursue in relationships with their mothers, are different for each type. Conclusions: Through this study, it is meaningful to understand changes in intergenerational conflict within the socio-cultural scope of South Korea through differences in perceptions of mothers who are closely related in the lives of Korean women in their thirties, and to narrow the differences according to individual perceptions, which can provide rationale.
