Students' Perceptions and Experiences of Art Education Using AR and VR: A Qualitative Meta-Synthesis

초록

This study comprehensively explored students' perceptions and experiences of art education using Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) through a qualitative meta-synthesis. By analyzing nine qualitative studies published since 2000, four major themes were identified. First, Expansion of Artistic Perception: Students used AR/VR to experience art in new media and spaces, blending traditional art forms with digital technology. Second, Enhanced Engagement and Motivation: The interactive and immersive nature of AR/VR environments significantly increased students' motivation and engagement. Third, Challenges and Adaptation to Digital Media: Initially, they experienced difficulties with device operation, physical fatigue, and cognitive overload. However, through repeated experience, they gradually adapted and expanded their artistic thinking. Fourth, Promotion of Collaborative and Creative Thinking: AR/VR-based team projects were effective in enhancing students' collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills. The technology also served as a tool for expressing social messages and fostering critical thinking. In conclusion, this study confirmed that AR/VR serves as a core educational medium that fosters students' creativity, collaboration, and engagement, going beyond its function as a simple auxiliary tool.
