초록
This study investigated the impact of media usage on academic procrastination behavior among university(graduate) students, focusing on messenger services, social media, online video platforms, and games. Additionally, the researchers analyzed the influence of students’ feelings and appraisals of their media use, categorizing them into four categories: negative feelings (guilt), negative appraisal (addiction), positive feelings (enjoyment), and positive appraisal (subjective vitality). The researchers collected data through a nationwide survey of undergraduate and graduate students (n = 338) and conducted hierarchical regression analyses. The study findings indicate that the impact of media consumption on academic procrastination behavior was limited. However, the researchers found that feelings after media use and subjective appraisals of media use were related to academic procrastination behavior in different ways. The study compared the relative influence of different types of media and found that academic procrastination was associated with guilt over messenger use and social media use, addiction to online video platforms, enjoyment of games, and vitality from games. In conclusion, this study contributes to our understanding of the relationship between media use and academic procrastination behavior. However, further research is needed to explore the mechanisms that underlie the observed associations and to identify effective interventions for reducing academic procrastination among university students.
