초록
South Korea’s entertainment show titled Bloody Game was launched as a Norwegian version in 2024. With a 34% audience share, the show proved to be a great success. The aim of this study is to examine the global competitiveness and localization success factors of Bloody Game in Norway. A content analysis comparing the Korean and Norwegian versions, along with in-depth interviews with the Korean and Norwegian producers, was conducted. As a result, the Norwegian version maintained the overall structure of the original to preserve the core format originality, while removing Korean-specific elements and incorporating cultural flexibility. It also featured celebrity casting and simplified the games, making the show more appealing and better suited to the preferences of Norwegian viewers. This study holds two key points of significance. Within the genre context, it is a research conducted on the Norwegian adaptation of a Korean-created survival competition reality show. Additionally, from a regional perspective, it represents the format localization study focused specifically on a Korean format’s adaptation in Norway, a country with high cultural discount rate in relation to Korea.
