AI 제너레이터 활용 확대 가능성 연구: 영화 VFX의 비정형적 물체 표현을 중심으로

초록
Purpose This study explores the potential of generative AI as an alternative to address the high costs, time, and specialized human resource requirements of existing movie VFX pipelines, with the aim of assessing the feasibility of expanding the use of AI generators in the movie VFX field. Methods As practice-based research, we conducted VFX work, which is post-production work for movies, and work utilizing AI generators on objects with non-standard shapes, and analyzed the processes and results of the two processes. Results We identified fundamental differences between existing VFX pipelines and processes utilizing AI generators, discovering differences in pipeline structure, efficiency, quality, flexibility, and control. Conclusion AI generators are not simply replacements for existing VFX processes, but rather new methodologies that can be selected according to the objectives of the work. The “uncontrollability” of AI can be interpreted not as a constraint on direction, but as “random creativity.” The use of AI generators is expected to lower the barrier to entry for VFX production, particularly in independent film production environments, granting creators greater freedom of visual expression and expanding the possibilities for its application.
